In 1869, J.H. Steffens bought 800 square metres of land on today's Nieuwstraat to build a mill there a year later. This used material from the demolished city mill from 1797. In 1910, the upper part of the mill burned down. One of the materials used to rebuild the mill was the hull of the demolished Makkum mill Het Springend Hart, built in 1768. The Vriezeveen miller W. Leemans bought the mill in 1914. In 1936, W. van Loo became the owner and the mill received its current name. In 1951, wind milling was stopped and the mill was exclusively electrically driven. At that time, the owner was J. Deterink.
In 1962, a major restoration took place at the mill. In 1978, electric milling was also discontinued. The last private owner was B. van Diermen, who transferred ownership of the mill to the municipality of Almelo in 1990, allowing a new restoration to take place in 1995. Stichting Windkorenmolen De Hoop Almelo currently operates the mill.
