The earliest history of this mill begins in Katwijk. The mill's name was taken from the fact that it was the first mill built after the Haarlemmermeer polder was parceled out and brought under cultivation. Over time, 5 more mills were added but have since disappeared due to demolition and fire. The mill operated as a windmill until about 1930. From that time until World War II, milling was continued in a motor milling plant located near the mill. In the 1944-1945 Winter of Hunger, the mill was made fully millable again and operated with wind power. In late 1977 the mill underwent a gronidge restoration and since then grain has again been regularly ground at the mill by volunteer millers.
