Terrace route through Haarlemmermeer
Haarlem, Hoofddorp, Nieuw-Vennep
Is spring just around the corner? Or do you just want to enjoy the autumn sunshine? It's always a good time for a terrace route! This cycle route has a friendly length and passes by cosy centres and interesting sights, so fill your cycle route with the nicest stepping stones!
This cycle route starts in Hoofddorp where you can park your car on the Raadhuisplein. Here you can order your first drink on the terrace! On the way, you will pass fun places to get off your bike, such as the Molenplaspark. If you got hot while cycling, this is the perfect place to take a cooling dip. But don't stay too long, there are lots of goodies waiting for you!
In the middle of Hoofddorp, you cycle right past Molen de Eersteling. This mill was the first to be installed after the Haarlemmermeerpolder was drained. Brought over from Katwijk, it continued to operate until 1930 and again during the famine winter in WWII. Even now, there is still regular activity by the volunteer millers. After this, cycle nicely through the polder, past the old Hoofddorp Fort, to Nieuw-Vennep, where it might be time for something tasty again? Through winding streets, between farms and meadows, you find yourself closer to the big cities than the landscape suggests.
Via Landgoed Groenendaal and Bosbeek, you continue towards Haarlem. For centuries, various families lived on the Groenendaal and Bosbeek country estate, each making the beautiful country house their own in their own way. You can now take a lovely walk and take in the history. Take a breather in this oasis of greenery and tranquillity.
This pleasant cycle route continues to the atmospheric centre of Haarlem. A good place to grab a bite to eat and a drink before you start your journey back towards Hoofddorp. Where, of course, you end the day in style on a terrace with one last treat. After forty kilometres of pedalling, you deserve it!
