Meinardi's farm shop is located in a characteristic farmhouse on the outskirts of Noordbroek. It is the kind of place you want to hop off your bike and take a look around. Where it smells of freshly baked bread, where the shelves are full of home-grown produce, and where the staff are happy to tell you about the origin of these products.
Meinardi has been a family-run agricultural business for generations and currently consists of three divisions: an arable division growing potatoes, grain and sugar beet, a horticultural division specialising in asparagus and strawberries, and two shops, including this location in Noordbroek.
In season, everything revolves around asparagus. By placing heating pipes under the beds, Meinardi determines when the season starts. And in the shop you can see how the asparagus is sorted and peeled, and then ends up on the plate on the terrace, fresh from the land.
The strawberries also deserve attention. In the greenhouses in Sappemeer they grow above the ground, protected from the weather. Bumblebees take care of pollination, and natural enemies keep aphids in check. This creates a flavourful, strong fruit.
In the shop you will find, in addition to their own products, cheese, eggs, sausage and other regional products. There is an on-site bakery, a kitchen for meals, and a wide range of homemade jams, juices and pickled vegetables.
Meinardi supplies to restaurants and Jumbo stores in Groningen and the surrounding area, but a visit to the farm shop itself is definitely worthwhile.
