Once a seabed, it is now a vast forest in the Northeast Polder. In the Kuinder forest near Bant, you will find peace, nature and plenty of surprises. Birds of prey skim by, butterflies flutter around, and Welsh ponies and Icelandic horses maintain the clearings by grazing. Around the Kuinder pond, nature is at its best.
What makes the Kuinder forest truly unique is its status as a dragonfly sanctuary. There are 46 species of dragonflies living here, from the Northern winter damselfly to the spotted whitethroat dragonfly. Thanks to the variety of pools, marshes and variation in soil types, the Kuinder forest is a true paradise for these insects.
Staatsbosbeheer has understood this well and ensures that the dragonfly sanctuary remains paradise for both dragonflies and humans. Walking and cycling paths bring you closer to nature. Everywhere you see dragonflies dancing above the water. The Kuinder forest is a place of wonder, like a piece of freedom in a fluttering jacket.
