Cycle route Fantastic Flevoland & Friesland
Lemmer, Bant, Oosterzee
Discover the Fantastic F provinces with one Cycle route: Flevoland and Friesland!
Start in the Kuinderbos, where you will also find a car park. Then cycle to Bant, one of the ten villages in the Noordoostpolder. People started building the village in 1951, but what few people know is that this was a prison camp for NSB members after World War II. A special camp, because at one point camp commander Gunnink ran a test: if the prisoners signed a contract that they would not flee, they were given complete freedom within the camp. Everyone signed and no one fled. Bant was also the setting for much of the film ‘Abeltje’ in 1988.
Lemmer used to be one of the most important fishing towns in the Netherlands, but this was largely lost due to the construction of the Afsluitdijk. Lemmer hosts the annual Lemsterweek full of events. Of course, the Lemsteraak, a traditional Frisian sailing ship from Lemmer, plays an important role. In the bay of Lemmer stands the lighthouse. Perhaps not the most common model for a lighthouse, but one you can climb for a great view of the landscape and the IJsselmeer.
Along the edge of the Tjeukemeer you cycle along the waters of the Pier Christiaansloot, Et Wiede and the Tsjonger back to the Kuinderbos. The vast surroundings will relax you completely.
