Close to Haarlem, at the foot of the steep dune De Blinkert, a historic site is located: Kraantje Lek. In 1542, inn Rockaers was built on it. Now a restaurant with a playground and a huge seesaw stands on the spot.
On the site is 'the Hollow Tree'. This is an ancient tree that was once believed to give birth to children in the hollow tree. In 1976, it was severely struck by lightning so it was replaced by a replica in bronze in 2007.
