Haarlem, Bloemendaal, Aerdenhout

One moment you cycle through vast dunes, green forests and hills full of heathland, the next you cycle into bustling Haarlem. The ancient city received city rights as early as 1245 but this land was inhabited long before that. Archaeological finds tell a story dating back to around 1500 BC.

In old Haarlem, you will find cosy terraces to sit down on, old buildings and hidden courtyards. Without realising it, you probably cycle past several of these green oases. You will also pass Haarlem's oldest hofje, Hofje van Bakenes. Add it to your route not to miss it! If there is an oldest, there is also a newest: the Johan Enschedé Hofje from 2007.

Much of the route you cycle through the rolling landscape of the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. With a bit of luck, you'll encounter beautiful birds and wildlife here, although the latter will often be hidden among the dunes and copses of trees. The large grazers are less shy and show themselves a bit more often. You might spot them during your visit to the Wisentuit viewpoint.

During this route, you will enjoy the vibrant life in, and outdoor life around, the city. After some kilometres through the dunes, you can enjoy a cosy break in the city centre.
