Knol's Koek is a household name in Groningen and has a rich history dating back to 1923. What started as a traditional bakery on Zuiderdiep grew into a family business that has focused entirely on biscuits since the 1960s. The third generation of the Knol family is now at the helm, but the method is still traditional: prepared by hand and without additives such as fragrances, colourings or flavourings.
In the bakery, which is now located on the Hoendiep, the famous Groningen biscuits are baked with care and craftsmanship. The biscuit is characterised by a firm, slightly sweet structure and a spicy flavour, thanks to a balanced mix of spices. In addition to the classic variety, there are also other flavours, such as raisin and nut cake. The family business can be recognised by the green and white logo with the Martini tower, a symbol of Groningen's identity.
Knol's Koek is not only available in their own shops, but also in Jumbo supermarkets in Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe. If you are cycling this route, you can make a stop here to taste a piece of Groningen tradition and discover more about this family business that has been a fixture in the region for generations.
