Sidney Waerts (stage name SIT, 1976) has done nothing but draw since the age of four. For him, it was an outlet and a way to understand the world. After his education, the Haarlem native started a career in advertising and stayed there for 15 years as art director, designer and illustrator. In 2007, he devoted himself entirely to the arts. In 2008, he had his first exhibition. After this success, he started collaborating with several galleries where he exhibited his paintings and sculptures.
Sidney was asked to create murals for restaurants, clubs and bars. In 2017, he broke through internationally when he designed the concert poster of Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder. Since then, you can find his murals not only throughout the Netherlands but also in Oregan USA and Ibiza, for example.
A number of his murals can be found in Haarlem. Since 2022, you can view a beautiful work in the Cloverleaf Gate as a tribute to the new generation with their specific challenges. Dutch youth but especially youth who fled to our country for their safety. For example as a result of wars, such as the Ukraine war. The mural stands for hope, peace, perspective and future and was realised in five days, entirely in black and white. You can see a child looking outwards, into the future? The fluttering white doves unmistakably represent peace.
