Johan Enschedé courtyard - Haarlem

N 52.381759431442 / E 4.6401185930758

Next to Haarlem's oldest, still existing courtyard you will find the newest: the Johan Enschedé courtyard. Construction was completed in 2007 and there is space for 8 elderly women and 2 elderly couples. Johan Enschedé's printing business once stood on this spot, which is why this courtyard is now named after him.

Traditionally, courtyards were built by rich people to provide a place for poor single women.
