The Duursche Waarden is a nature reserve in the floodplains of the IJssel near Olst-Wijhe. It is a beautiful area consisting of marshes, estuaries and woods. It is the habitat of the Scottish Highlander and the Icelandic horse. But of course also of many water birds. There is an old brickworks, as a lot of clay used to be mined here, a swimming pond and a watchtower for a good view of the area.
In the information centre, you can learn a lot more about the Duursche Waarden and the river IJssel. There is an exhibition where you can open drawers with information, there is a seasonal lab and there are regular guided tours and excursions by the Forestry Commission. From the floating bridge you can walk straight into the nature reserve.
