That Herman de Man lies in a Catholic cemetery is no coincidence. In 1927, like his wife and children had done before, he converted to Catholicism. The grave also bears his writer's name 'De Man', not 'Hamburger'. During his stay in London, his surname was officially changed to 'De Man' by Royal Decree on 9 September 1943.
His gravestone bears the text: 'Here rests Herman de Man (...) until we, with our dear mother, brothers and sisters, shall be united together, in heavenly Jerusalem.' The grave was completely renovated in 2019.
