Saïd Kinos (Rotterdam 1988) is a visual artist with a background in graffiti. He received his bachelor's degree in graphic design from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. When he is not travelling around the world to create one of his murals, he likes to work in his bright studio in Rotterdam. This is where the ideas arise, inspired by books, old magazines from the 1970s and 1980s and colour combinations he encounters in everyday life.
As a graffiti artist, his stage name Kinos was born and his fascination with human communication, symbols and typography. He describes the art movement as post-typography, in which language is used to explore new forms and colours. His art invites deeper exploration of meanings and personal associations behind the visual splendour.
Fellow artist Sidney Waerts (Haarlem, 1976) invited Saïd to collaborate on the painting of Global Sew Holland. There, Sidney created an imposing tribute to the history of the Haarlem sewing machine factory that shows, among other things, an old sewing workshop, a classic girl, thread, a modern workshop and sneakers. Unfortunately, this special work cannot be viewed by passers-by.
The back of the building was tackled by Saïd. While this left him with a blank pallet, it presented him with a huge challenge due to the very uneven background of the factory hall. This mural, entirely in Saïd's recognisable style, is called ‘Heritage’ and can be admired from the other side of the Spaarne, at 144 Spaarndamseweg.
