East of Rijssen lies the manor house De Oosterhof. On a partly double-circled, more or less square courtyard are the house with L-shaped ground plan and two building houses of recent date. There is also an early 19th-century walking forest with a pond on the property island. By marriage, the manor comes into the Van Ittersum family in 1631 and the house will remain within this family for almost three centuries. The year markers ‘Anno MDCLII’ and ‘Renovato 1737’ are evidence of several renovations.

The Oosterhof now houses the Rijssens Museum. This museum has a large and very diverse collection that makes a visit well worthwhile. In the virtual Van Heel Room, you can view Dutch masters from the 16th and 17th centuries, down to the smallest detail, with VR glasses. But the physical Van Heel Art Collection, belonging to Marin Gérard van Heel, firm owner of jute factory Ter Horst, and his wife, can also be admired in the museum. The collection includes Delft earthenware from the 17th and 18th centuries, silver miniatures and timepieces.

But that's not all, in the museum you will learn all about the city history of Rijssen, how important the jute industry was for Rijssen, but also that brickmaking was an important source of income for the Reggestad. In the cellar, archaeological finds are exhibited and in the coach house you will find changing exhibitions. For more information, visit the museum's website.
