Two huge rocks that have been completely in 'Gleichgewicht' or balance or equilibrium with each other since 2002 and fit together wonderfully beautifully. The lower stone is of so-called Småland granite from southern Sweden, but fits perfectly in the Drenthe area. The shiny black rock above it is a so-called gneiss: a stone formed in deep layers of the earth's cost under the influence of high pressure and temperature from other rocks.
Sculptor Dorsten Diekmann (Osnabrück, 1960) initially worked in Berlin, but settled in Lemgo in 1994. A main theme in his work he himself, remarkably, calls "movement". "The stone is processed in a certain way that makes the statics and heaviness of the material seem eliminated." The polished surface, according to Diekmann, creates contact with the environment, reflecting changing light and weather conditions. Works by his hand are in several German cities, including Lemgo and Detmold.
