Hilly heathlands, shifting dunes and fabulous fens characterise the landscape of the Drentse Gasterse Duinen. The fens were once part of the course of the Drentsche Aa stream, which is why the fens are still aligned today. Sand drifts caused the course of the stream to partially close, leaving two large marshes. These are now known as the Voorste Veen and the Achterste Veen.
Get off your bike for a walk through this dune-like area, for example to Hunebed D10 which is also on these grounds. You may also come across Scottish Highlanders here!
