The farmers who lived in this area about five thousand years ago lived in small villages of which little or nothing remains. What has been preserved are the burial mounds in which they buried their dead. Like at the Friezenberg.
Nothing remains of the dead themselves, but the so-called grave goods, objects the deceased took with them for life after death, were frequently found. Earthenware jars, for instance, or weapons.
