Hoeve Watersnood is almost three centuries old. The farm owes its name to a flood that occurred in 1726. The dike along the Lek broke in two places, as did the dike on the IJssel between Montfoort and Oudewater. The partially destroyed farm was rebuilt and named Watersnood.
In the novel "Het wassende water", about Gieljan Beijen, Herman de Man calls the farm: "Water-Snoodt". Where he got the inspiration to split the word that way is clear. Indeed, in the name tile in the front facade, the letters are evenly divided: 'water' above and 'snood' below.
