Before Spaarnberg is built, there is a linen bleachery here. After land purchases by Adriaan van der Hoop, he and Jan David Zocher Jr. made an effort to create a landscape whole in which ornamental elements are alternated with existing building or pasture, using all kinds of picturesque effects. This set-up preserves the economic value of agricultural land while still providing an ornamental park. The inventor is the English garden theorist Stephan Switser (1685-1745). He advocates this principle in his book The Nobleman, Gentleman, and Gardener’s Recreation. Spaarnberg consists of a country house, a finch track, a study and bath house and a deer camp. In 1950, the house was demolished and only a service house in chalet style remained. The chalet is now a restaurant.
