This mill is the oldest surviving octagonal stage mill in Overijssel. Its predecessor was probably a tower mill. Until then, the mill had always been used to grind grain for bakers and farmers. The axle that was freed during the Second World War was confiscated by the German occupiers, melted down and possibly made into war material. The mill was then without sails for a while.
In 1979, thanks in part to the efforts of the De Wijhese Molen foundation, the windmill was restored to its former glory. The current upper shaft was then obtained from the mill in Marle on the other side of the IJssel. Currently, one pair of grinding stones is still used to grind animal fodder.
