As early as 1571, there was a farmstead with a horse-driven mill on the site of the present-day Welgelegen. From 1650 to 1832, the house was known as ‘Herberg de Roskam’. In 1832, a new house was built in classicist style. The English landscape-style landscaping dates from this time. In 1870, the house was converted into a boarding school for girls. Since 2006, it has been home to a private small-scale residential and care facility for the elderly.
