Next to the moat, the oldest part of Castle Eyckenhorst that is still intact is the gatehouse that dates back to 1500. It has a turret and the entrance gate is made of natural stone. When the rest of the complex was built is not known; in any case, the current house, the castle farm is from after 1658.
Once the seigniory of Beek en Donk was owned by King Philip IV of Spain. When he sold it in 1643 to Jan Baptista van Elen, it came into the hands of the Dutch nobility and was inhabited by barons and marquises. The house is still inhabited and cannot be visited. However, the country estate is open to the public, from where you can certainly catch a glimpse of the complex.
