Dwingeloo is the place to be. You see it when you look around, you feel it, you smell it! Dwingeloo is well worth a visit. The village lies beautifully in and around the greenery between the two National Parks Dwingelderveld and Drents-Friese Wold and is easily accessible from every direction. With good reason, Dwingeloo was awarded the Gold designation ‘Greenest Village in Europe’ in 2012.
As residents and entrepreneurs, you get this just like that every season, but what does the charming village have to offer you as a visitor?
The beautiful brink with the fire tub ‘De Riete’ is the centre of the village. You will find beautiful farmhouses and other old restored buildings. And have you seen the Siepel yet? That's how the onion-shaped church tower here is popularly called. Siepel is in fact Drenthe for onion.
But don't just look at the ‘Siepel’, a viewing downstairs in the Sint Nicolaaskerk is also well worthwhile. And read the story of ‘De Juffer’, which is the lady on horseback cast in bronze that you see standing in front of the Siepel church. Cycle around the village and discover many shops and catering establishments with lovely terraces in the shade of the trees.
