Did you know that the people who lived here in prehistoric times would have held meetings and court sessions then too? The Balloeër pit, located in the Balloeërveld, was probably the place for these meetings.
But more has been found here. In 1839, a coin treasure from the Late Roman period was found, consisting of some 370 silver denarii (Roman coins). The treasure dates from around 180 AD. The silver coins were sold to two silversmiths from Assen after research.
