Atelier Roosje Hindeloopen - Hindeloopen
In the 17th and 18th centuries, the foundations of Hindelooper furniture and painting were laid. Almost the craft had disappeared, but Arend Roosje managed to preserve the art.
Roosje's shop is the oldest business of Hindelooper wood, carving and painting. Arend Roosje (1869-1914) worked wood into artful furniture and decorated it with old-fashioned Hindelooper folk art. The shop on Nieuwstad has been there since 1894.
Several young men were apprenticed to Roosje, including Eberhart Ebertus Stallmann. When Roosje died, the business was transferred to Stallmann. Since then, the art has been passed on to already the fourth generation of Stallmann.
