The best archaeology museum in North Holland is located close to the dunes, in the charming village of Castricum. Fascinating for young and old. You can see how archaeologists bring history back to life with everything that comes out of the ground.
The recently renewed exhibition takes you on a journey through history; from prehistory to the present day. You can admire beautiful finds from more than five thousand years of history. You can also study real skeletons from different periods: exciting! And you stand eye to eye with the reconstructions of these people; unprecedentedly real. In addition to the permanent exhibition, take a look at the changing temporary exhibitions.
There is also plenty for children to do: play the exciting ArcheoGame. Let your hair down in the interactive sandbox: dig lakes, build mountains and let it rain! And there is always a fun treasure hunt to do: Can you find Hilde? In the ArcheoLab, you can get to work with real finds and in the ArcheoHotspot you can go on a treasure hunt yourself. You can become an archaeologist yourself!
Huis van Hilde is located right next to Castricum railway station and on the edge of the Noord-Holland dune area. In Museumcafé De Oude Keuken, with its sunny terrace, you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee and delicious regional dishes before or after a nice dune walk or cycle trip.
