Cycle route through the North-Holland Dune Reserve
Wijk aan Zee, Castricum, Castricum aan Zee
The 5300 hectares of woodland and dunes between Wijk aan Zee and Bergen are called the North-Holland Dune Reserve. In the southern part there are high dunes in the east, south and west, the middle part is fairly flat. This is also where the airfield of the Eerste Zaanse Zweegvlieg Club is located. Besides being a beautiful nature reserve, the Noordhollands Duinreservaat also has an important function: it provides almost all of Noord-Holland with clean drinking water.
This nature reserve is managed by the drinking water company PWN; in order to enter the area, people from the age of 18 are required to have an access card. Cycling is allowed on the paved paths, but not or not at all on the unpaved paths until half past 10 in the morning, as indicated by signs and on the PWN walking and cycling map. Prepare for your visit at www.pwn.nl/duinkaartkopen.
