With the name Anna van Chiel, the brasserie pays tribute to Anna van Gelder. The wife of Michiel de Ruyter. Besides looking after ‘Chiel’ and the children, Anna was also responsible for buying food and drinks for the ships on which Michiel sailed. Anna oversaw finances and paid wages to the ship's personnel.

According to the brasserie, it was Anna who ensured that ‘Chiel’ could write our country's history.
