Vincent van Gogh lived and worked in Nuenen from December 1883 to November 1885. His stay in Nuenen is considered one of the most important and productive periods of his life. With great commitment, he produced 194 paintings in Nuenen, including ‘The potato eaters’, 313 drawings, 25 watercolours and 19 letter sketches.
In addition, Nuenen itself and its surroundings form a collection in itself. No fewer than 23 buildings and landscapes have a direct relationship with Vincent's two-year stay in Nuenen. Of these 23 objects, 14 were painted or drawn by him, one or more times. The Van Gogh Cycle route passes this living collection.
