Tulip cycle route through the head of North-Holland
Schagen, Anna Paulowna, Petten
On this cycle route through the bulb-growing region of North Holland, you can see all the tulips in bloom from mid-March to mid-May. Crocuses are the first to appear in March. Then come the daffodils and hyacinths. Finally, from mid-April to the beginning of May, the tulips join in. An amazing sea of colourful and fragrant flowers as far as the eye can see!
The fields lend themselves perfectly to a nice bike ride. There are plenty of 'flower activities' to do in the villages along the way during these months, such as the Polder Garden in Anna Paulowna, the Flora Garden and the Dutch Tulip Experience at the Land van Fluwel. If you want to see the world's largest bulb region, head to Anna Paulowna. Over two hundred years ago, Anna Paulowna was named after King William II's Russian wife.
This route is also worthwhile during the other months of the year. Due to the short distance between the beach and the city, this cycle route contains all the elements you want to experience during a day at the coast. Venture out along the sea, soak up culture in town and discover all the natural beauty in the area.
There is always something going on in the historic town of Schagen. See the characteristic buildings, walk through the narrow streets or enjoy the cosiness of the market square.
Hopefully you will have the wind with you when cycling along the North Holland coast and can enjoy the view. Here along the water, there are plenty of moments where you can get off to rest with a cup of coffee. Also be sure to check out the extraordinary Palendorp in Petten.
