To the Geul valley and the Bovenste Bos
Valkenburg, Gulpen, Margraten
Discover the special Geul valley with a river that meanders its way. This river is fed by no less than 130 tributaries. But also enjoy the Bovenste Bos (Upper Forest), which grows on top of a slope. Together with the Onderste Bos (Lower Forest), this is one of the oldest hillside forests in the Netherlands.
Moreover, there are some surprises hidden in the cycle route. If you cycle in May or June, you will discover the richly flowering Berghof meadow, and the Genhoes nature reserve is not to be sneezed at in other seasons either. You will find impressive history stories, beautiful nature and lovely views. For nature lovers, this is a real treat! Many species of special plants grow in this nature reserve and the singing birds fly around you.
In this area you will also find De kluis van Sjaasberg, a hermitage inhabited by a new hermit each time between 1688 and 1931. Thanks to the nearby chapel, hermits here lived anything but a "hermit's life".
Also stop by Wylre Castle from 1652, can you imagine what everything looked like then?
