Terrace route between Groesbeek and Overasselt
Groesbeek, Mook, Overasselt
What could be more delightful than a day of cycling and stopping along the way at a cosy outdoor café? On a beautiful sunny day, a day of cycling and stopping along the way at a cosy terrace! This cycle route leads from Groesbeek to Overasselt and is just long enough to leave time for a few good terraces. Along the way, we selected some special terraces where you can enjoy a relaxing drink or a nice lunch. At Évive Aan Het Water, for instance, you can dream away all year round in a beach bar setting as if you were on holiday. They also have regular live music at Évive that is guaranteed to get you into relaxation mode.
But of course, there is more to see on this cycle route along the Meuse. For instance, we found several mills, some of which are still in regular operation. Malden's Heemtuin is also a nice Pit stop to park your bike in front of. You can discover twelve different biotopes here, each with its own indigenous flora and fauna. Jachtslot Mookerheide is a must-see gem. The beautiful historical greenhouse at the castle is managed by Natuurmonumenten and is accessible when the black gate is open.
Still have time to spare while enjoying yourself? Then you can also choose from the various museums on the route, such as the Agrarisch Museum De Lage Hof in the Buurderij.
You will look out over the many waters in the area a lot along the way, but you can also enjoy the Groesbeekse Bos and the Mookerheide for quite a few kilometres. Here a flock of sheep graze and it is the habitat of the goldcrest, the nightjar, the spotted woodpecker, the crested tit and many other special birds. But also of the smooth snake, fox and squirrel. It is a varied and multifunctional forest where you can see tree species such as lime, rattle poplar, sweet cherry and maple as well as forest avenues with groups of rhododendrons. There are parts formed in the ice age and parts where man has exerted his influence.
While cycling this terrace route, you will pass through no less than three provinces: Gelderland, Limburg and North Brabant. How nice would it be to pick up one of these delicious terraces in each of the provinces? Just do it, park your car at the Heumensoord car park at the intersection Beukenlaan, Groesbeekseweg and start this super pleasant route at node 32. You immediately start with some tough height differences but then you have a good reason to take a break at the first terrace.
