Southern part of the Southern Sea cycle route
Spakenburg, Bunschoten
The Zuiderzeeroute is beautiful, but very long. Do you think 400 kilometres of cycling is just a bit too far, but would you like to discover a part of this route? Get on the bike and cycle the Southern part of the Southern Sea cycle route.
While cycling around Nijkerkernauw and Eemmeer, you will cross Bunschoten-Spakenburg. Spakenburg is a former fishing village that was located on the coast of the Southern Sea before the construction of the Afsluitdijk. The unique history of this village has been well preserved in the Spakenburg Museum and the Traditional and Fisheries Museum. Discover objects from the past and try the traditional costume yourself! Be sure to take a look at the old harbour of Spakenburg, as there are still many old ships.
If you want to shorten the route a little, you can take the bicycle ferry (note: check the opening times of the ferry in advance).
