Hoogeveen, Hollandscheveld, Nieuwlande
Dieuwertje Blok (famous Dutch TV presenter) takes you through the special landscape area around Hoogeveen. From around 1630, peat was dug off here on a large scale. For a long time, peat extraction determined the life and work of the inhabitants, but also how the landscape was arranged. While cycling, you will recognise the influences of the peat history in the landscape. The many canals were necessary to drain the peat and transport it.
