The Achterhoek's agricultural surprises

That the Achterhoek is an agricultural region won't surprise anyone. But that it is also a very interesting region to cycle through may come as a surprise. Today you will cycle through Beltrum in Gelderland, known for its clog factory. But there is much more to see in this village. For instance, you can see a steam engine at work on Mariaplein (De Witte Olifant) and, just outside the village, enjoy a modern work of art on an original silo. In the museum town of Borculo, learn more about the agricultural history of this area at the Farmhouse Museum De Lebbenbrugge. You will find even more interesting museums in the centre of Borculo. Further on in Ruurlo you visit the windmill and just past Ruurlo you cycle past the surprising Book Exchange Tree. This special project by cabinetmaker René Bruns consists of a sweet chestnut tree, donated by Baron van Heeckeren van Kell, in which a real library with bookcases has been made. It is a fairytale sight and a very nice place to take a break from your cycle route. Between all these Achterhoek towns, you enjoy wide views, green as far as the eye can see, authentic farms, a bee farm and a number of windmills. Pedal on with blushes on your cheeks. Start the route at the car park of TOP Berkel Palace and cycle towards the first junction 83.
