Veenhuizen, a special village with a wonderful history. It is nothing like other villages in Drenthe. Veenhuizen is part of the Koloniën van Weldadigheid (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Straight lanes, stately buildings and more than 100 national monuments characterise the special prison village. From here, you can easily cycle to the Fochteloërveen. On the border of Friesland and Drenthe lies this vast and impressive bog landscape. Via Norg, you cycle through the stream valley De Slokkert. A vast landscape with wooded banks and ash trees. A beautiful, varied cycle route where culture and nature come together.
