Vincent did not always want to become an artist; for a while he wanted to devote himself to the church. This never got off the ground. Having failed in his attempts to become an art dealer, teacher and preacher, he decided in the spring of 1881 to give his life a new direction. At the end of April 1881, 27-year-old Vincent arrives at his parents' parsonage in Etten, with his tail between his legs. Staying at home was cheap. He was not exactly made to feel welcome. Sitting at the kitchen table, he finally tells them he has found his calling. He would become an artist. He would explore and draw everything that was part of farm life. Etten became the turning point in Vincent van Gogh's life. This cycle route allows you to delve deeper into the life of Vincent van Gogh and takes you past locations that depict his life.
