This scenic cycle route takes you through the beautiful hinterland of Rotterdam and Moerkapelle. You start your tour along the Rottemeren, a South Holland lake area that played an important role in shaping Rotterdam as we know it today. It is here, on the banks of the river Rotte, from which Rotterdam takes its name. Enjoy the serene water landscape and lush green surroundings here. Along the way, you'll pass some remarkable sights. The Eendragtspolder, for example, is a vast nature reserve that served as the venue for the European Rowing Championships in 2016 and the World Rowing Championships in 2016 and 2019. The polder offers a beautiful landscape with wide views and is a great place to enjoy bird watching, hiking and cycling. But you will also find the Eendrachtsmolen, a ground-sailer at Zevenhuizer Verlaat, which can serve as a water refresher for the Rotte river. Another highlight of the cycling tour is the Bentwoud, a young forest area created in recent years between Zoetermeer, Benthuizen and Boskoop. The Bentwoud offers vast forests, winding cycle paths and countless opportunities for nature lovers to walk and cycle. It is an oasis of green and a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature.
