While most cycle routes near Beverwijk focus on the dunes, we take you on a special journey through one of the most beautiful polder landscapes in the Netherlands. The polders around Assendelft. Bring your camera, as this route offers unforgettable views of the area's natural beauty. The cycle route passes two beautiful windmills that make the landscape even more beautiful. One of the mills is a paper mill that is still in use, producing paper used mainly by artists and bookbinders. The other mill is a hulling mill, which still grinds barley and pearl barley. But it is not just the mills that make this route so special. The landscape is waterlogged, making for an impressive polder landscape. The area is rich in natural beauty, with vast fields, green meadows and beautiful nature reserves. You will see different species of birds, including black-tailed godwits and redshanks, and if you are lucky, you may even spot a rare spoonbill. You will also cycle past the Music Fortress, a unique monument that once served as a defensive structure but now serves as a cultural meeting place. The fort is surrounded by lush green fields, inviting you to have a picnic or just relax.
