People lived in Epe from an early age. You will find burial mounds in the landscape and many prehistoric finds have been made there. During your cycle route, you may come across the flock of sheep on the Renderklippen, between Epe and Heerde. Heerde has the predicate Cittaslow-municipality. This is an international quality mark for municipalities that score well in the field of preserving identity, cultural history, hospitality, infrastructure, landscape, environment and regional products. Around Oene, there are remarkably many poplars. That was because poplar wood is very suitable for making clogs. There used to be twenty clog makers in Oene.
