Located on the Dutch coast, Zandvoort had its origins as a modest fishing village. However, in the 19th century the rise of sea bathing became increasingly popular, and Zandvoort became a popular destination for many. Those who traveled to Zandvoort even included Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary, better known as Empress Sissi. Unfortunately, during World War II, Zandvoort's bathhouses and boulevards were demolished due to the construction of the infamous Atlantic Wall. Nevertheless, the attraction of the beautiful surroundings around Bloemendaal remained, where many celebrities sought refuge. Among them were illustrious names such as Jac. P. Thijsse, Anton Pieck, Toon Kortooms, Godfried Bomans and Toon Hermans, all of whom lived in this area for shorter or longer periods of time. Nearby Aerdenhout also offered a pleasant place to stay. This picturesque villa village is home to the Needles Field, which probably houses the oldest pine trees in the Netherlands. This makes Aerdenhout a place where one can fully enjoy the peace and beauty of nature. Between node 83 and 36 you will find parking if you come by car.
