Cycling route around the Silent Lake

Nieuw-Loosdrecht is not that new anymore, it was already mentioned in the 13th century, only then it was called de Sijpe. Oud-Loosdrecht already had a church, Sijpe just a chapel. However, when it was promoted to parish church in 1400, there was an old church and a new church. This is how the names Oud-Loosdrecht and Nieuw-Loosdrecht came into being. The name Sijpe was perpetuated by Sypesteyn castle, which, incidentally, was not built until the early 20th century. The Stille Plas, also called Breukeleveensche Plas, is part of the Loosdrechtse Plassen. During this route, you cycle right through it. Besides Loosdrecht, you will also pass through Maartensdijk. Loosdrecht and Maartensdijk are in a beautiful area with many different types of nature. There are many beautiful forests and parks, where you can enjoy peace and quiet. There is also a wide variety of fauna in the area, including various birds, mammals and reptiles. The area is very popular with water sports enthusiasts, with vast lakes and canals where you can go boating, surfing, canoeing and more. Kasteel-Museum Sypesteyn, the Tienhovense Plassen and Hilversum Airport are great places to get off if you like culture, water and aviation. The castle-museum is a hidden gem in the castle park. Here you can dive into history while looking at the surrounding gardens and forests. There are also attractions such as the miniature golf course and the farmers' golf course. At the Tienhovense Plassen, it is a paradise for birds and other animals that love the water. You can do great cycling here and enjoy the beautiful views over the water. Finally, there is Hilversum Airport, where you can get a breath of fresh air and enjoy the planes flying overhead. Here, you can learn about aviation and the history of the airport, while enjoying beautiful views over the surrounding area.
