Cycle route past wild animals
Spaarnwoude, Heemstede, Haarlem
This wonderful bicycle route of less than 50 kilometres takes you through the National Park South-Kennemerland; a beautiful forest and dune area with nice viewpoints to stop for a moment. An oasis of peace in the busy urbanised part of this province. In the area, herds of wild Konik horses, Shetland ponies, Scottish Highlanders and wisents (European bison) graze. Take a break from cycling to get a breath of fresh air on the beach near Bloemendaal. Further on, you will cross recreation area Spaarnwoude, go over hamlet Penningsveer and in Haarlem-Zuid you will cycle through the park at the Molenplas. Add historical country estate Duin en Kruidberg where Stadholder Willem III used to hunt animals. Also get off your bike for De Hommel (bumble bee), de Zandhaas (sand hare) and don't forget De Eenhoorn (unicorn). Start and finish your route at the bicycle route pick-up point in the cosy, green Burgemeester Reinaldapark.
