Loosdrecht consists of Oud-Loosdrecht and Nieuw-Loosdrecht. Cycling from Nieuw-Loosdrecht through the polders, you come across many monumental farms. You end up in Oud-Loosdrecht. Here you see the water of the Loosdrechtse Plassen all around you. The beautiful water-rich landscape is a Natura 2000 area and designated as a special protection zone for birds, plants and other animals. On the banks, you can regularly spot original black tarred wooden houses with thatched roofs. These are old workers' cottages of the peat workers. In summer, water sports are abundant on the lakes. Sypesteyn Castle was built by squire Sypesteyn in the early 1900s. His own imagination was the basis of the design. He housed his antique collection here, including the high-quality Loosdrecht porcelain. This was produced in Loosdrecht between 1774 and 1784 as an employment project of local pastor Joannes de Mol. He started this project to help the poor inhabitants. If you deviate slightly from the route at node 28, you can visit the castle. In this cycle route, you brave both Loosdrecht and cycle around and through the water lakes. The unique nature is a feast for the eyes! The cosy villages such as Vreeland and Kortenhoef, but also the country estates and a small piece of Hilversum forest give the cycle route a nice variety.
