If you cycle this route in early spring, you can enjoy the blossoms of the many fruit trees in this area. These are in full bloom then! But even if you get on your bike in another period, there is plenty to see during this cycle route. The beautiful town of Buren was once the setting for a royal wedding: William of Orange married Anna van Egmond, Countess of Buren, on 8 July 1551. The marriage was performed in Buren Castle, which unfortunately no longer exists. In 1804, badly neglected, it was demolished. But the former town hall now houses the Orange Museum, where you can see a large model of the castle. In Culemborg, you can check out the Elisabeth Weeshuis Museum, which is perhaps the most expensive orphanage in the Netherlands. You'll also find the beautiful old Market Square, where there is a weekly market every Tuesday morning, and a Tourist Transfer Point If you'd like to start your cycle route around here, this is a great starting point. Between junctions 54-53, you will come across the Enspijkkse Veer. This sails daily from 1 April to first weekend of October between 09:30 and 17:30. Are you there on a day when the ferry does not sail? Then you can cycle round via the following junctions: Long option (12 km extra): from junction 55, follow 31-30-53 or vice versa. Short option (to reach Theetuin De Fruithoeve): from junction 54, follow: 14-47-52. To get back on the route, cycle back these numbers.
