One of the characteristics of the Nieuwkoopse Plassen is its rich bird population. But the Nieuwkoopse Plassen are not only home to birds; various mammals have also found their home here. Otters, deer, foxes, hares and ermines are just some of the animals you might encounter during your cycle route. It is a unique chance to come face to face with the inhabitants of this beautiful area.
As you cycle along the lakes, water lilies and yellow plump will brighten your path. In spring, pink finches, cuckoo flowers and water mint bloom on the banks of the lakes: a true explosion of colours!
