Farm cycle route
Woudsend, Heeg, Koudum
The Fluessen is Friesland's second largest lake. Around the lake, you will find various regional farmers, each growing their own products. During this cycle route, you will pass fields where grain and vegetables are grown and a fisherman smoking eel.
Get off at the farms and take a look around the yard. On many of the farms, you will find a farm shop where you can taste the products fresher than fresh or take them home. Fresh dairy, artisan sheep's cheese, the tastiest fruit and vegetables and, of course, eel smoked right in front of your nose. If that's not going to be a treat...
The countryside is interspersed with small villages and real water sports places. But you will also come across art. At Kolderwolde you will find the Famkes van Kolderwolde, eleven statues along the road. All tell something about the village or Frisian culture.
In Woudsend, don't forget to dismount at Grain Mill ‘t Lam. Every Saturday, miller Cees grinds the corn here from which delicious breads are made!
Caution!
There is a ferry (between It Heidenskip and Gaastmeer) on the route. It sails at set times from March to November. Check the sailing schedule in advance at the Pit stop or on the site of the ferry for current sailing times.
Do you bike when the ferry doesn't run? Then you can detour via the following junctions:
* From It Heidenskip: follow after junction 23: 18-17-04-06-16-33-34
* From Gaastmeer: follow after junction 34: 33-16-06-04-17-18-23
(about a 9 km detour)
