Food cycle route | Asparagus in Bergen op Zoom-North
Bergen op Zoom, Halsteren, Moerstraten
Cycle over the Brabantse Wal, a unique sand ridge stretching from the Belgian border to beyond Bergen op Zoom, and discover the diversity of landscapes that have developed there. Due to the transitions from dry sandy soils to moist clay soils, freshwater areas and influence of the salty sea, the nature here is very varied. Cycling through the rolling landscape, you get a good idea of what this beautiful region has to offer.
For it is not only nature that is wonderfully beautiful here: the region is also famous for growing asparagus. Thanks to the influences of nature, they taste extra special here. So be sure to stop by one of the farm shops, where you can buy the asparagus straight from the land. You won't get fresher than this anywhere!
Another highlight on this route is the Binnenschelde, where a number of fine restaurants are located along the beach promenade. The terraces overlooking the water give you an instant holiday feeling.
Or admire Bergen op Zoom's historic city centre. The Grote Markt is a real recommendation for visiting the city's monuments or just sitting on a terrace people-watching.
Experience Brabant's rich food culture with this cycle route. A great day out!
