Ferry cycling route around Sneek
Sneek, IJlst, Terherne
Sneekermeer is famous for its sailing competitions during Sneekweek and skûtsjesilen. So you can do lots of water sports on the lake. But it is also a beautiful area for you as a cyclist!
Start your cycle route in Waterpoortstad Sneek. The cosy town has all sorts of things in store to surprise you. Visit the Fries Scheepsvaartmuseum and immerse yourself in the history of water.
Leave Sneek and swap the city for nature. Just outside Sneek is the Potschar and Groene Dijk nature reserve. Cycle through the greenery and enjoy the sound of birds singing around you.
Before you know it, you arrive at Terherne, an island on the Sneekermeer lake. Did you know that the lives of the boys of the Chameleon also took place here? Rest on the island at one of the idyllic restaurants and imagine yourself on holiday. Keep this feeling as you cycle off the island and follow the shell path right along the water after junction 68. Lovely!
You almost round the lake and cycle back towards Sneek. But first, enjoy the ferries, Frisian villages and the lovely fresh wind blowing through your hair.
Note: There are ferries on this route.
